Goût Russe Douchka: A Tea Inspired by Someone Loved

Some tea stories begin with a small everyday habit. For Dammann Frères’ Goût Russe Douchka, it was the orange Véra added to her Earl Grey.

An orange in Earl Grey

In the brand’s account, her husband Jean Jumeau-Lafond experimented with orange and tea in a wooden tea chest in their sons’ bedroom.

In the 1950s, he created an orange-flavoured tea for her and named it Goût Russe Douchka. The brand explains “Douchka” as a term for someone loved.

Why we share this story

For Happy Gourmet, the appeal is the thought behind the blend: one person’s preference became the inspiration for a tea.

It is also a way to meet the people behind the brand, beginning with a simple habit in Véra’s cup.
